WELLBEING/MANA ATUA
Wellbeing or Mana atua, is the first strand in New Zealand’s Early Childhood Curriculum, and vitally important at My Preschool. Opportunities are abundant for all aspects of physical activity at My Preschool; a large outdoor space with gardens, animals, long periods of inquiry and uninterrupted play, music, movement, the arts, engaging resources and the freedom for tamariki to express themselves.
Safe environments where respect, empathy, care for ourselves, others and the environment are role modelled, discussed and constantly promoted enables self-worth. An environment where emotional regulation and self management are valued outcomes, My Preschool promotes resilience and children’s holistic development.
Children are involved as soon as they are able, to participate in the process of planting, growing, harvesting and preparing food. An early understanding of the importance of nutrition supports their growing bodies and promotes healthy eating preferences.
Relationships/ ngā hononga developed over time with a loving, experienced and highly qualified team of teachers ensures children have a sense of belonging at My Preschool. As they progress through the centre this sense of wellbeing enables children the freedom to make choices about their preferences, interests and to be involved in setting and reflecting their own learning goals.
Our environment is the third teacher; in which caring, experienced and interested teachers/kaiko and peers set the scene for wellbeing / mana atua to thrive. “Today you are you, that’s truer than true. There is no one alive that is Youer than you!” Dr Seuss.
